  • Thanksgiving 2009

Everything went really well.  We had a few last minute people sign up bringing out total to 25.  Lots of food, fun & fellowship!

  • Hmmm...

Today came.  Today went.  Much accomplished.  Much yet to do.  Most of the Thanksgiving prep is done except for cooking, that will start bright and early tomorrow.

Josh woke up happy, playful and much warmer.  He's been fine all day and is now in bed asleep, like I should be.  Good Night!!

  • MUCH...

    Much done ~

    • Morning class taught.
    • Children taken to the the doctor - Josh for labs & a checkup and the girls for flu shots.
      • Josh's labs looked good, but today Josh has been really cold - yet again - and sleepy.  The doctor simply has no idea what is going on.   If he doesn't snap out of this "cold spell" then we'll need to take him back in tomorrow
      • Went over med info letter for the trip with the doctor.  I have a copy to make some English corrections to <all in all, it looks good>.  At Josh's appointment just before we leave, we'll get the final copy.
      • Talked about time changes & meds with the doctor.  Have this sorted out in my mind, just need to get it on paper.
    • Some mind uncluttering notes taken.
    • Call made to see where oh where our pumpkin is. <It should be here tomorrow.>
    • Children feed / Laundry done / Meds picked up / Kitchen tidied

    Much To Do ~

    • Rooms to prep for guests this weekend.
    • More laundry to do.
    • Thanksgiving stuff to finalize.
      • Still debating changing the menu a bit.
      • Need to go over the shopping list, especially if the menu changes.
      • Get the shopping done.
      • Get the ECS kitchen ready.
    • Pies to bake / Eggs to boil / Turkey to stuff / Dinner rolls to make.......
    • Meds to sort for the week.
    • Decisions to make and people to talk to.

I am feeling stressed trying to juggle Thanksgiving, medical needs, trip plans, & just day to day never ending things that need to be done.  I really wish we could figure out Josh's temp issues.  I am wondering if he is getting ill.  Praying he doesn't, but half expecting something to become serious about 5:05pm Friday <tomorrow> - you know the time... the time right after the doctor's office closes on a Friday night before a 3 day weekend

    Please pray for us.

  • First...

This morning had some first time experiences...some of which I would much rather not have experienced!

Kei had a dental appointment @ 9:00.  Basic retainer check and adjustment, with a twist.  Two of her baby teeth, that are not in the least bit ready to come out on their own, need to come out.  Today the dentist pulled 1 of them.  This was the 1st time I was in a position to watch the process.  I was also in a position where I had to be the brave mommy and not turn green around the gills or utter any sounds that would upset Kei   Kei did GREAT!  I was a bit weak in the knees...but survived

I also made Joshua's 1st dental appointment.  He doesn't have any loose teeth, but last week when he was ill, I noticed an adult tooth coming behind his baby teeth.  I ask the dentist about it today.  She's willing to see Josh, so next week I have the horrid task get the privilege of taking him

Another 1st today was much more pleasant - lunch out with the other moms for the "B" & "C" courses at Josh's school.  We had a lovely lunch with lots of chit chat touching on all the normal mom stuff with some added bits that only moms of special needs kiddos understands.   I am looking forward to getting to know these moms better

Everything made for a rather crazy morning.  I was home all of 10 minutes between the dentist and lunch and then 30 minutes, maybe, before needing to head to work.   With Wednesday being my busiest day it's been a challenge.   My kid's classes were more of a challenge today... I'm not sure if it was me or the kids, but by my 3rd class I was ready to throw in the towel.  Thankfully, my 3rd class is a small class of 3 girls that are wonderful students.  Then afterward I have a break, which I am spending here rather than working on Thanksgiving.  BUT, I must admit that once again blogging is helping me relax and I am feeling much better about things

    Other news ~

Today we have had 5 more people sign up for the Thanksgiving Dinner.  This puts us at 18 including staff    This is another first... never before have we gotten this close to the Thanksgiving event without having more people than we have reservation spots <we set a limit of 25 + staff>    This is just weird for me!   Now if the pumpkin will just get here

Well, it is time for my last class.  My blog medicine has done it's trick and I feel ready to teach...

    TTFN!!

  • Normal Day...

This morning I actually got up when my alarm went off   Last night I had gotten school things graded, so that wasn't waiting for me <the girls were shocked >.  Joshua's new med. schedule went smoothly.  Girls tackled their work.  Joshua played without destroying anything.  I was able to talk with a good friend.   Wait... this wasn't a normal day at all ~ things went smoothly

This afternoon, I actually had my lady's class.  One of the ladies moved so class has been more off than on recently.  It was nice to sit and chat and catch up on things.  I think we are going to be getting back on track with regular lessons from here on out

We are currently up to 5 for Thanksgiving   With our crew & staff we are looking at 12   I need to get the menu adjusted and shopping planned, but I'm afraid that as soon as I do, we'll have a bunch of people sign up... so do I just go ahead and plan on 30 and deal with left overs or do I adjust things for a smaller number   Any suggestions?

About Me

  • My theme song is "Hats" by Amy Grant... I've been married to my honey for 24 years.. We have a married daughter (21) & 2 grandchildren. We also have 11 & 8yo daughters at home along with a special needs 6yo son. DH & I are tentmaking missionaries in Japan. I homeschool, teach conversational English classes, do all the mommy stuff and make all the PT/OT/ hospital runs with our son. And just so I'm not too bored... there are outreach events and kid's club.

Why I blog...

  • This blog is a rabbit trail to our life in Japan. The things we do as a family or for ministry. My thoughts and feelings as a missionary, a wife, a mom to "normal" as well as special needs kiddos, etc... I blog to relax and get my thoughts in order. To share a bit of our lives with others. I do not blog to put on aires or make people think that I am super woman or the busiest woman they know or anything like that. I often share the things I do in a day, but it's only as a sharing point and a way for me to remember and reflect the day.
