I am not sure how many others might be aware of ALL THREE of these, especially not in the same child, but we are very aware of the effects of these diseases.

    How aware are you?

  • We have had friends with epilepsy and cerebral palsy, but so far have not known anyone with aplastic anemia (except for Joshy.) And to have all 3 is beyond amazing! (Not in a good way.)

  • Not living in the U.S., I am not aware of most of these days. When I taught school, I had several children with epilepsy. One little boy had a seizure at school. They had to increase his medication, and I remember how "out of it" he was for weeks while the doctors worked to find the right dosage for him. I also have a brother in law who has seizures because of a brain injury. It is hard to see people suffering and not be able to do much.

    • Since Joshy got Aplastic Anemia we have taken him off some of his epilepsy meds - he is like a new child. It is amazing what those drugs do to a person. Getting the drug cocktail right to control seizures is a very complicated process.
